Thank you for staying tuned!

Again, the write up is about safety in the bathroom and it’s an appeal to elicit our consciousness to save lives.

The 3rd part is culled up from real life experience, experience I can attest to. This part is actually warning us about the quality of bathroom products we have and an advice to use the plastic seat covers.

Please Remove Old or Fake Bathroom Wares and Install New Ones

Peterson had just moved into a new apartment with his uncle. He was celebrating his results as he had just graduated from the university and was awaiting youth service. By providence, he didn’t have issues with the school and he was cleared to go for service. You know Nigerian schools, even after your final examinations you are still not free.

On this faithful day, he got back from an outing with his school mates where they went celebrating. On getting home he needed to use the toilet. He rushed into the toilet, sat on it and before he could send out the 2nd parcel, he found himself crashing through a broken toilet seat. He managed to quickly jump up but he was already injured from the broken ceramics. Part of his buttocks and laps were torn and bleeding.

He called out to a friend who came to take him to the hospital. Thank God he didn’t lose a lot of blood. His lacerations were stitched and by the 3rd day he was fit to return home.

Another incident of fake or weak bathroom ware.

Mama Felicia had a little incident 3 weeks ago. She missed her step while climbing a staircase and sprained her ankle. It wasn’t meant to be a big deal, but Mama Felicia was weighing over 100 kg. E be like say she carry weight sha… it affected her so badly that she needed to wear a cast. She was going through one of those very uncomfortable moments.

Fast forward a little, last week Mama Felicia’s case was compounded by another accident. Her attempt to use the toilet resulted in a bad crash. Luckily, the rubber/plastic seat was in place; on top of the ceramic seat. This eliminated the gravity of the damage or injury that would have been caused. So what happened?

Even without the cast, it was difficult for Mama Felicia to seat lightly on the toilet seat. She usually slams heavily on every kind of seat. Now she had a cast on her leg, she practically fell heavily on the toilet seat. Unfortunately, the toilet seat was installed almost 20 years earlier and was not in the best shape to withstand over 70 kg with such force. We thank God that no injury was sustained.

Get toilet seat covers, and use them… believe it or not many people feel it is not necessary. Even though they are not expensive!

The stories narrated above are real life stories, we have only used pseudonyms to protect the identity of the actual victims. It also important to note that although the stories above focused on toilet seats, there are other parts, wares or accessories in bathrooms that cause critical damage if they give way from the position of installation. Be Careful and change what needs to be changed! In fact remove them if such part cannot be changed immediately. – Avoid Usage!

So what are the lessons we have learnt from this part of our trilogy post – Correct Processes in the Bathroom?

LESSON 1

When moving into an apartment, it is advisable to change the toilet seats; especially if they are old or look old. You may not know when they were purchased or if good ones where installed.

LESSON 2

Remove any toilet seat that show signs of cracks or weakness. If the toilet breaks you would still have to change the toilet and pay for hospital bills.

LESSON 3

It is advisable to sit on the plastic seats on the toilet. E get why!

LESSON 4

As explained in the first part of this write up Correct Processes in the bathroom (part 1) ensure to install rails or hand bars in the bathroom. There are bars or rails installed by the toilet part of the bathroom to aid use and convenience especially for the elderly or sick. (In the story above, Mama Felicia found her self in a more difficult circumstance not just because of her weight but also because of her injured leg.)

LESSON 5

All forms of bathroom wares that are giving way or cracked should be removed or replaced: this includes all accessories. A visitor may be the victim because s/he is not aware of the true state of such accessory of bathroom ware!
